CO Supreme Court Hands SCOTUS a Way to Save the Republican Party
But Who will save us from the Republican/Democratic Duopoly?
The Colorado Supreme Court, with some help from the Trump campaign, may have put an opportunity for saving the Republican Party right on the table for SCOTUS like a big holiday turkey.
The Trump campaign may regret their part in all this because to save the party requires the Supremes to throw Donald Trump under the bus.
Based on the reactions of the current crop of Republican VP wannabes it’s highly unlikely that the Supreme Court will take the course that corrects the veer toward authoritarianism within the party. After all, with a court as political as the current court has proven to be, it’s highly unlikely they would save the party without political cover from the likes of Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.
As usual, Haley speaks with forked-tongue, mostly because she’s afraid of the backlash. David Frum has called her “artfully insincere” but that is far too kind under the circumstances.
The great irony of the dilemma, however, is that saving the Republican Party from itself is only half the problem. The larger problem is how to save us from a two-party duopoly operating without franchise and without regard to the democratic guardrails that have protected us in the past. Even now, for example, the Democratic Party has effectively canceled the New Hampshire primary and is rushing headlong to cancel the Florida primary as well, denying the people of both states the right to vote for candidates of their own choosing.
